About Us

Upward Mobility is a unique industry-wide program that has been developed to provide underserved students with access to formative work experiences with industry-leading organizations in the field of employee mobility. At the same time, it creates a talent pipeline of smart, motivated students through internships and brings a far greater breadth of thought, perspective, and experience that is needed by mobility employers to ensure our continued shared success.

Creating these opportunities exclusively for marginalized students helps to level the playing field and positively impacts ongoing career success.

Breaking Barriers

Across all industries and sectors, there is a well-documented lack of access to formative work experiences for marginalized students that perpetuates inequality and limits their post-graduation success. Providing opportunities for underrepresented groups to work in the field of employee mobility lifts us all and creates a more equitable society.

How it Works

Partners

Upward Mobility partners with universities and community programs to source high-potential talent who will apply for internship opportunities. Upward Mobility's goal is to form a recruiting pipeline from these partners by exposing marginalized students to the exciting and varied careers available in the field.

Hosting Companies

Upward Mobility collaborates with hosting companies that pay interns a minimum of $17.50/hour and offer mentorship throughout the summer. The companies also determine if the internships will be in-person, virtual, or a hybrid of both. Our goal is to provide access for students to gain practical work experience and, ideally, work in the mobility field after graduating.

Students

Student candidates receive job descriptions for available positions via our partner schools, which also invite their students to apply for jobs of interest. Students may apply for up to three positions. After reviewing applications and completing an interview process, hosts select and hire their interns. Our goal is to have students placed in interesting roles that help them develop professionally and gain deep insight into an interesting career field.

Our students participate in industry-wide training, giving them a broad understanding of what employee mobility entails while also exposing them to the rich, varied opportunities that exist in our field. This training prepares students for success not only in their current roles but also provides them with the skills and knowledge needed to advance their careers.
